Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer defeated Democratic Senate incumbent Heidi Heitkamp to win the North Dakota seat. Cramer's victory over Heitkamp effectively flips a state President Donald Trump won by a wide margin in the 2016 election. Addressing the young people who got engaged in the election, Heitkamp said, "It seems like such a bitter thing to lose a race, but the worse thing would be to not ever run at all, to not ever try."
